Acid vs. Alkaline

Another interesting component that I knew a little bit about before but now am really digging into is the subject of pH. Our bodies have really a narrow range of comfort in this area- we are, in a perfect world, slightly alkaline. The things we eat, drink, and even think can affect the pH in our bodies. If we start leaning over to the acid side by eating a lot of oh, sugar, caffeine, fried foods, having unresolved emotions, we really start making things harder on ourselves. Our bodies work harder to clean up the mess we've made and get back to the balance where our organs aren't stressed and working overtime.

We can help these little soul-houses we are living in by consuming more alkaline foods. And of course these are the very things we've all heard we SHOULD be eating anyway- your leafy greens, beautiful veg and fruits, and of course clean water (this is not necessarily the same as chlorinated water- more on that later). Things like meditation and exercise would fall into this category as well. Being creative and doing things you enjoy.

You can see a lovely food comparison chart to help you visualize. The funny thing is that a food (let's take lemons) has it's own pH. Once you ingest it, and your body starts breaking it down, the effect of that food can change. So lemons are acidic in their natural state. But when we ingest a nice glass of lemon water, the effect in our bodies is alkalizing.

You just put lemons on your grocery list didn't you? I know. Me too.
